Radiology representatives from the American College of Radiology® (ACR®), Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Association of University Radiologists, Society of Interventional Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and the American Society for Radiation Oncology attended the February 2023 American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedure Terminology® (CPT®) Editorial Panel meeting. The hybrid meeting was the first of three meetings in 2023 to update codes for the 2025 CPT code cycle.
The ACR co-sponsored a CPT code change proposal requesting the conversion of Cryoablation of Somatic Nerves from Category III to Category I status. However, the Panel recommended the code change proposal be resubmitted at a later CPT meeting in order to allow the ACR the opportunity to collaborate with other specialty societies — such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Urological Association — who utilize these ablation codes. This action is unlikely to delay the anticipated implementation date of these codes, Jan. 1, 2025.
In addition, the radiology CPT advisors met with various vendors and specialty societies to discuss upcoming potential code proposals, reviewed over forty code proposals submitted to the AMA, and closely monitored and commented on eight proposals that included imaging submitted by other specialty societies that would potentially affect radiologists.
