Mike Lauer, MD, Deputy Director for Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), detailed in a recent blog post changes to the submission and review of NIH grant applications beginning in 2025. The post includes a guide notice and video that provides an overview of the upcoming changes. Changes include a simplified reviewed criteria for most research project grants.

There are three upcoming webinars to assist in providing contextual information on the changes:
• April 17: Webinar on NIH Simplified Review Framework for NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs): Implementation and Impact on Funding Opportunities (registration open)
• June 5: Webinar on Updates to NIH Training Grant Applications (registration open)
• Sept. 19: Webinar on Revisions to the Fellowship Application and Review Process (registration open)

Additionally, NIH developed a centralized webpage about the changes.
