The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) opened the application period for eligible clinicians that wish to request an Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) exception for the 2024 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance year. MIPS clinicians who are approved for an EUC exception will have one or more of their performance categories reweighted to zero percent, exempting the group or individual from having to submit data for those categories.

CMS said groups affected by recent cyberattacks should select “Ransom/Malware” as their reason for seeking an EUC exception. The agency also noted it will no longer accept COVID-19 as a reason for exception.

If you have questions about the 2024 MIPS reporting year, or about the EUC exception application, contact Zach Smith, American College of Radiology® Senior Quality Programs Specialist.
