Leaders of the ACR are often called upon to comment on controversial topics circulating in the media that impact the specialty of medicine and our world. ACR leadership strives to prioritize its efforts and resources on the specific missions of the ACR rather than their own specific convictions and opinions. We wish to inform you that the ACR leadership has chosen to refrain from commentary on controversial topics and will take a measured approach to respond. We want to inform you of our rationale for this approach and assure you that despite our lack of public comment, we are continually monitoring topics of interest that directly impact our membership.

ACR strives to listen to our members and understand their needs and concerns. This is achieved by actively listening to feedback through multiple channels (including but not limited to, Engage, direct communication with ACR leadership, and ACR staff) and responding appropriately to convey understanding and, if applicable, action.

When a notable topic emerges, ACR leadership will monitor the situation as our members discuss it. We will assess whether the topic directly relates to radiologic care, reimbursement, regulation, promotion, quality, or advancement of radiologic care or the health, safety, and well-being of radiology professionals and their patients. We will also collect and assess the facts for accuracy. We will respond to inquiries as appropriate. We may reach out to subject matter experts when determining next steps.

ACR generally will remain neutral and refrain from commenting on every high profile topic.

If ACR does decide to issue a statement on a controversial issue, the statement will be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the Board of Chancellors which includes the Speaker and Vice Speaker who represent the Council.

ACR believes this approach will serve the college's best interests by strengthening our relationships with stakeholders, advancing our goals, and protecting our valuable reputation.
