The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) prepared a detailed summary of the 2024 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) July 13.

The summary outlines issues that impact radiology, including updates to imaging ambulatory payment classifications and requirements for the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting program.

CMS proposes to update OPPS payment rates for hospitals that meet quality reporting requirements by 2.8%, increasing the conversion factor to $87.488. CMS is requesting feedback about how the current packaging policy for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals has impacted beneficiary access, as well as comments regarding potential approaches to modify this policy.

If finalized, the rule changes will be effective Jan 1.

The ACR will submit comments to CMS by the Sept. 11 deadline. If you have questions, contact Kimberly Greck, ACR Senior Economic Policy Analyst.
