ACR and RSNA Host SERT AI Workshop

The American College of Radiology (ACR) Informatics and Quality and Safety Commissions, in partnership with the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), co-hosted a workshop on Safe, Effective, Reliable, and Transparent (SERT) artificial intelligence (AI). This workshop took place on November 3, 2022, at the ACR headquarters and brought together experts from the field of medical imaging to examine the practices that have emerged in deploying AI in clinical settings.

The purpose of this workshop was to identify the challenges and barriers to the deployment of AI in medical imaging and to identify best practices for reliable, safe, effective, and transparent AI. The workshop proceedings were published for the benefit of the wider medical community, providing a valuable resource for those interested in the safe and effective use of AI in medical imaging.

The long-term goal of the ACR Informatics and Quality and Safety Commissions is to facilitate an ACR practice parameter on the safe and effective use of AI in imaging. This will be achieved through close collaboration with the ACR council leadership, quality and safety commission, and other relevant stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the use of AI in medical imaging is safe and effective for patients, while also promoting transparency and reliability in the deployment of AI in clinical settings.

The workshop on SERT AI was a significant step forward in the journey towards the safe and effective deployment of AI in medical imaging. The workshop provided valuable insights and best practices for the deployment of AI in clinical settings and will help pave the way towards an ACR practice parameter on the safe and effective use of AI in imaging.
