The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the latest National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) procedure-to-procedure (PTP) edits, Version 29.3, effective Oct. 1, 2023. The update will be available via the CMS Virtual Data Center (VDC). A test file will be available on or about Aug. 2, and a final file will be available on or about Aug. 17.

The NCCI was developed by CMS to promote national correct coding methodologies and to control improper coding that leads to inappropriate payment in Medicare Part B claims. Version 29.3 will include all previous versions and updates from Jan. 1, 1996, to the present.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) urges practices to review the NCCI edits relevant to radiology and making any necessary updates to your system.

Refer to the CMS NCCI webpage for additional information or contact Maria Tran, ACR Director of Economic Policy.
