Participation of American College of Radiology® (ACR®) member practices in the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Practice Information Survey is urgently needed.

Why radiology practice participation is critical

  • Accurate Medicare physician payment: The survey is intended to collect updated practice cost data for all medical specialties, including radiology, to ensure accurate reimbursement.
  • Although the survey was sent to about 430 interventional and diagnostic radiology practices and more than 3,000 radiologists, only seven have been returned.
  • The survey also was sent to independent diagnostic testing facilities this month.
  • Current data used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to calculate Medicare physician payment is drastically outdated, more than 15 years old.

What to know

  • The AMA, working with consulting firm Mathematica, first launched the survey in July 2023, with regular biweekly reminders. The survey was sent to more than 10,000 practices; the AMA recently expanded the survey sample to include more than 700 additional practices.
  • There are two concurrent surveys for selected practices: the practice survey is aimed at practice managers or financial experts; the physician survey is aimed at physicians.

What you should do

  • Check your email inboxes, including junk and spam for an email from ppisurvey@mathematica-mpr.com or physicianhourssurvey@mathematica-mpr.com.
  • Check your mailboxes for a USPS mail packet from Mathematica.
  • Remind your business managers and financial experts to also check their emails.
  • Complete the survey as soon as possible. The deadline to return the survey is near.
