Did You Know?

  • Why do you like interviewing the guests of the RLI Taking the Lead podcasts?
It is such a privilege to have these incredibly accomplished guests to break from their day and connect with me for two dedicated hours. Some of the conversations become deeply personal, and I am gratified to gain the trust of our guests to explore sensitive topics openly. I love helping them to explore aspects of their career and life journeys that they may not have considered in years if at all. Often the conversation reaches a state of flow where two hours flies by, and I emerge feeling refreshed and energized. Added to the often-relayed appreciation of the guest that they gained new insights into their own careers, there is no better feeling.

  • How do you hope these interviews impact listeners and the field of radiology?
I hope they inspire our listeners to seize the day and lean in. There are so many ways to bring impact and make a difference. Hearing about all of the situations and attributes that led our guests to develop their leadership will hopefully spark a fire for all of our listeners to take the lead.

  • How long does it take you to prepare for an interview?
It depends on the subject, but 3-4 hours is typical.

  • How do you select your guests?
It’s a team effort with Anne Marie Pascoe and occasional input from other RLI leaders like Frank Lexa. We strive to identify guests with distinct backgrounds and accomplishments. Many of the guests are leaders with whom I have crossed paths over the course of my 35 years in radiology, but others are folks that I am meeting for the first time to conduct the interview. We welcome suggestions!

  • Where did you learn to interview?
I have no idea… I am still learning for sure. I do love listening to a great interview. When it comes to insightful interviewing, Terry Gross is the gold standard.

  • If there was anyone you could interview in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
Dead? The usual suspects – Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison, but within radiology I regret missing the opportunity to interview several close friends and mentors – Gary Glazer, Sam Gambhir, Bill Bradley, Harvey Neiman. The list is long… Alive, I hope to speak with Vivian Lee, Dieter Enzmann, Ella Kazerooni and so many more incredible radiology leaders. Stay tuned!.
