2020 Annual Report

Welcome to the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) annual report for fiscal year 2020 (FY 2020), July 1, 2019–June 30, 2020

A message from William Thorwarth Jr., MD, FACR, CEO of the American College of Radiology:

I am pleased to present to you this year’s ACR annual report. The 2020 fiscal year, completed June 30, was one of unprecedented challenges, but also of many successes. Through the first 7½ months, we continued a very active agenda, “empowering our [over 40,000] members to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care” (the ACR Core Purpose statement) through the many existing and new programs that you all value. Your leaders on the Board of Chancellors, assisted by the nearly 2,000 volunteers on committees, commissions and task forces, and 500 dedicated staff, remained focused on implementing policies created by the ACR Council, your representatives.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in February, everyone sprang into action. The 2020 ACR Annual Meeting was converted to a very successful virtual program in order to conduct the business of the Council. Our face-to-face educational programs, including the AIRP® and ACR Education Center, were temporarily suspended for the safety of our trainees and learners. Virtually instantaneously, websites were created to provide guidance regarding both clinical care and navigation of the complex federal assistance programs to your departments and practices. A series of webinars was implemented by the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR®), the ACR Radiology Leadership Institute® (RLI) and several ACR commissions to provide both member experiences and the best information available. All of this, and more as described in this report, was accomplished while maintaining our many other services to you and continuing to innovate.

I want to thank everyone, from our Board leadership to our remarkably committed and talented staff, for successfully navigating this incredible year. We look forward to FY 2021 and continuing to empower you. Please take a few minutes to read this annual report which outlines in significant detail the value of the ACR to each of you, to our professions and — most importantly — to the patients we all serve.
