The Rhode Island Senate Committee on Health and Human Services recommended that S. 2606, legislation that would authorize the state to join The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, be held for further study. This recommendation means that the bill is effectively tabled but can be brought back at a later time.
The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact to date is the largest compact regrading medical licensure in the United States. The compact is an agreement among participating U.S. states and territories to work together to streamline the licensing process for physicians who want to practice in multiple states. The compact currently includes 35 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.
