The American Medical Association (AMA) launched the Physician Practice Information Survey (PPIS) in July 2023, to estimate the practice expense per hour of patient care by specialty. This data was last gathered more than 15 years ago and must be updated. American College of Radiology® (ACR®) members have until Aug. 31 to complete the survey.
ACR urges radiologists who received the survey from Mathematica (the AMA’s consultant conducting the survey) to prioritize its completion before the end of the month, and to also confirm with their business manager or financial expert to ensure that a separate practice survey is completed.
The physician survey should only take a few minutes; the practice survey to collect updated data on practice costs is more time consuming. The collected data will be analyzed by Mathematica and shared with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which will apply it in their calculation for Practice Expense Relative Value Units that impact Medicare payment.
