CMS Extends Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Application Deadline

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the deadline for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians to apply for a hardship exemption to their 2020 MIPS participation. The new deadline for submitting an Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances application is now Feb. 1, 2021. Clinicians applying for this exemption can have any or all MIPS performance categories reweighted for the 2020 performance year.
