On Dec. 10, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule aimed at improving the electronic exchange of healthcare data and streamlining prior authorization processes for certain Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Plan programs. The rule proposes requirements for increased patient access to electronic health records. In addition, CMS aims to streamline the prior authorization process and improve the electronic exchange of health information among payers and providers. CMS believes these policies will reduce overall payer and provider burden and improve patient access to health information.
CMS released a fact sheet outlining the key details of the rule.
