The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Nov. 10 that individual clinicians eligible for the 2021 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) will receive an automatic exemption from the program if they do not submit data for the 2021 performance year.
Whether a practice will be automatically exempted from MIPS or required to submit an application requesting exemption will depend on the practice’s participation status. More information is available on the CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP) Exceptions information webpage.
CMS also has updated its QPP Participation Lookup tool to reflect 2022 eligibility. Clinicians can confirm their status and check eligibility for the 2022 MIPS program using this tool.
