The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) presented four new codes to the American Medical Association/Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) for valuation. The virtual meeting took place from Jan. 13 to 16.
The new codes pertain to Trabecular Bone Score, which is used to assess fracture risk and evaluate bone microarchitecture. The physician work and practice expense recommendations approved by the RUC will be shared with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with anticipated implementation in 2023. Discussions during the RUC meeting are confidential.
The ACR was well-represented, as usual, by its RUC Advisor, Kurt Schoppe, MD, and Alternate RUC Advisor, Lauren Golding, MD, with support from Andrew Moriarity, MD. Ezequiel Silva III, MD, FACR, served as the Radiology RUC panel member, and William Donovan, MD, MPH, was the Radiology Alternate panel member.
The April 2021 RUC survey cycle will begin in February.
