The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) developed a detailed summary of the 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) July 13. The summary outlines Medicare payment provisions and updates to the Quality Payment Program. If finalized, the rule changes for most of the provisions would take effect Jan. 1, 2024. The ACR plans to submit comments to CMS by its Sept. 11 deadline.
CMS estimates the overall impact of the MPFS proposed changes to radiology to be a 3% decrease, a 4% decrease for interventional radiology, a 3% decrease for nuclear medicine, and a 2% decrease for radiation oncology and radiation therapy centers. However, this does not take into account the impact of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (CAA) payment supplements of 2.50% for 2023 and 1.25% for 2024. As such, the specialty impact mentioned above will be approximately 1–2% higher.
