Oregon advances a bill modifying supervision requirements for physician assistants (PAs) while Rhode Island deliberates a measure that would expand physical therapists’ scope of practice.
In Oregon, House Bill (HB) 3036 passed both legislative chambers. Sponsors of the bill seek to change the practice agreement between a PA and physician from a supervising to a collaborating agreement.
In Rhode Island, HB 5198 is scheduled for a hearing before the Committee on Health and Human Services. It would seek to permit physical therapists to order diagnostic imaging, defined as “basic radiological imaging.” Unless extended by the state general assembly, authorization for physical therapists to order diagnostic imaging would sunset Dec. 31, 2023.
The Rhode Island Radiological Society is monitoring the bill.
