The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) extended the public comment period for the draft guidance on patient release criteria (DG–8061) until August 20. The draft document is the proposed second revision of Regulatory Guide 8.39, Release of Patients Administered Radioactive Material. The agency seeks stakeholder feedback on the proposed changes to calculations and impacts on 10 CFR 35.75 release determinations, such as potential holds of I-131 therapy patients.
The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) commissions and committees of jurisdiction are compiling feedback from the radiology community for communication to NRC. Members interested in providing input for this effort can contact Michael Peters, ACR Senior Government Affairs Director.
Individuals with subject matter expertise should also consider (1) reviewing the draft guidance, and (2) providing comments on the public docket describing how the proposed methodology changes for release determinations could impact patient care.
