The National Institutes of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), an Institute within the National Institutes of Health, released Understanding Medical Scans, a mobile device app specifically designed for patients. The app helps patients understand expectations during a medical scan and demonstrates how scans can help with both diagnosis and treatment.
The app explains five different types of imaging scans — PET/SPECT, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray — and describes the latest research in those modalities.
With question-based navigation, images and videos, this app makes medical imaging information easy to understand and available anywhere. Patients can download the app in English or Spanish.
American College of Radiology® (ACR®) advocacy efforts assisted in the creation of the NIBIB, and ACR’s ongoing efforts continue to help maintain robust and predictable appropriations for the institute.
