The American College of Radiology® (ACR®), led by Current Procedure Terminology (CPT®) advisor Mark Alson MD, FACR, and a coalition of radiology specialty society advisors, played an active role at the May 2022 CPT Editorial Panel meeting in Chicago. This was the second of three meetings to update codes for the 2024 CPT Code cycle.
The ACR sponsored two Category III code proposals: virtual reality (VR) procedural dissociation services and digital X-ray radiogrammetry (DXR-BMD) for bone density assessment. If approved, the new Category III codes will be released July 1 on the American Medical Association’s website, with an effective date of Jan. 1.
For a list of all the anticipated radiology code changes for calendar year 2023, please refer to the March/April 2022 ACR Radiology Coding Source. Awareness of anticipated 2023 codes will give you and your practice time to consider changes needed to update your contracts for the coming year. The September/October 2023 ACR Radiology Coding Source will list the new codes and descriptors.
