The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has determined that there was not sufficient data overall to calculate the Cost performance category of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) during the 2020 performance year. Providers who participated in MIPS in 2020 will not be scored based on this category. The Cost performance category typically makes up 15% of MIPS scoring, but for 2020 this has been reweighted to 0%. That 15% will be redistributed to another performance category — the Quality performance category in most instances.
This reweighting is automatic; clinicians do not need to take any action for the reweighting to occur.
More information about MIPS is available on the CMS Quality Payment Program website. If you have questions, email nrdrsupport@acr.org.
