The U.S. Senate confirmed Chiquita Brooks-LaSure as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) May 25, along a near party-line vote.
Brooks-LaSure is well-known in the health policy world. She served as deputy director of CMS’ insurance office during the Obama administration as a healthcare staffer for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra when he was a congressman on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. Brooks-LaSure most recently worked as a consultant in the private sector.
With the administrator’s confirmation complete, the Biden administration is expected to move quickly to fill other top CMS vacancies.
