The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has published an Interim Final Rule (IFR) affirming "VA's current practice of allowing VA healthcare professionals to practice across state lines “in accordance with the scope and requirements of their VA employment, regardless of conflicting state requirements” and “VA's authority to establish national standards of practice for healthcare professionals which will standardize a healthcare professional's practice in all VA medical facilities."
Although the IFR does not include references to performing and interpreting imaging, as did a proposed change by the VA in 2016, the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) is committed to protecting the quality of medical imaging care our veterans receive just as we successfully did in 2016. The ACR government relations staff are reaching out to policymakers and other physician organizations that could be impacted by this IFR. We will also be submitting comments in response to the rulemaking.
