HHS Issues Final Rule on Price Transparency
On Oct. 29, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Labor and the Department of the Treasury issued a “Transparency in Coverage” final rule, building on President Trump’s Executive Order on Improving Price and Quality Transparency in American Healthcare to Put Patients First. The rule will require commercial health insurers in the group and individual market to disclose price and cost-sharing information to patients. The rule builds on requirements for hospitals to publish charge data. The Trump Administration believes that making this information available to the public will support consumer decision-making and promote competition. Additional information may be found in the final rule Fact Sheet.
