The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) published updated educational information for radiologists regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) “Information Blocking” rules. The latest updates include links to new HHS resources and revised FAQ for radiologists diving into surprise radiology reports and the program’s scheduled expansion in Oct. 2022.
The ACR Information Blocking resource page was originally posted in March 2021 to help address widespread confusion created by HHS’ incomplete regulatory implementation of the 21st Century Cures Act (2016). HHS has sparingly updated stakeholder communities with incremental FAQ updates and webinars, although other information — including permissible compliance strategies and enforcement rules implementing disincentives for providers — have yet to be made available.
The ACR will continue to update its FAQ and other resources as new information is released by HHS.
