The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) government relations staff is developing strategies to help state radiological societies fight dangerous non-physician providers (NPP) scope of practice (SOP) expansion legislation. ACR and the state societies believe as the provision of healthcare throughout the country becomes more complex, a fully coordinated, quality-focused and patient-centered healthcare team is the optimal means by which patients will receive their healthcare. Only physicians possess the necessary educational and professional experience required to lead these complex healthcare teams.
As part of that preparation, ACR is working with other national medical associations to strategize on scope bills, including participation in a recent webinar hosted by the American Medical Association (AMA). ACR tracked more than 100 bills in 30 different states, in 2023, related to radiologic scope of practice expansion.
The ACR expects this number to continue to grow in 2024. To stay current on SOP issues, particularly those related to radiology, view the ACR policy map and check out ACR scope of practice resources.
