A key strategy for state radiological societies in the fight against scope of practice (SOP) expansion is educating lawmakers and the public about the differences in education and training between a radiologist and a non-physician provider (NPP).
The Michigan Radiological Society (MRS) has developed infographics depicting the differences that have helped them when meeting with lawmakers. The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) and MRS have worked tirelessly to advocate against SOP legislation in Michigan and have been successful thus far this session in keeping scope bills from being considered.
To stay current on SOP issues, particularly those related to radiology, view the ACR policy map and check out ACR's scope of practice resources.
