ACR Presents Two Code Families During September RUC Meeting

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) presented two code families for valuation at the American Medical Association (AMA)/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) meeting Sept. 25-28, in Washington, DC. The outcome of both families will be discussed in the 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

CT cerebral perfusion and CTA head and neck was presented in collaboration with the American Society of Neuroradiology. Prostate biopsy was a multispecialty effort with the American Urological Association, the Society of Interventional Radiology, and the Outpatient Endovascular and Interventional Society.

The practice expense and physician work for both families was presented to the RUC Panel by ACR RUC Advisors Andrew Moriarity, MD, and Michael Booker, MD, MBA, along with guest presenter Cindy Yuan, MD, PhD, RUC Advisor for the Radiology Society of North America. Gregory Nicola, MD, FACR, and Lauren Nicola, MD, FACR, represented radiology on the RUC panel. Additionally, the College hosted Robert Bour, MD, Benjamin Northrup, MD, Alan Matsumoto, MD, MA, FACR, Chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors, and Jennifer Padwal, MD, MAS our most recent Moorefield Fellow. All four were first-time observers of the RUC process.

ACR is now working on the surveys for the January meeting. The College anticipates surveys will be launched later this month. Due to the short survey cycle, ACR urges members to prioritize any received RUC surveys.
