Dillon Harp, American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Senior State Government Relations Specialist, recently joined leaders from the Texas Radiological Society (TRS) to speak with radiology residents at Houston Methodist Hospital about the importance of physician-led advocacy. During the presentation, Mr. Harp was joined by Sarah Avery, MD, FACR, President of TRS, and Michael Grimes, TRS lobbyist. This presentation allowed radiology residents to hear about first-hand advocacy experience from Dr. Avery, multiple ways they can get involved in advocacy in Texas from Mr. Harp, and a 2023 Texas legislative outlook from Mr. Grimes. The Texas Legislature is unique because they meet in legislative session every two years; in off years, legislators meet in interim committees to study various issues.
The College has many resources to help members become involved in advocacy, including the new Radvocacy website and a scope of practice micro-website. For more information about advocacy and the Radiology Action Network, please contact Melody Ballesteros, ACR Assistant Director, Government Relations.
