American College of Radiology® (ACR) Data Science Institute® (DSI) leaders presented at the Food and Drug Administration Patient Engagement Advisory Committee’s meeting Sept. 6 regarding “Advancing Health Equity in Medical Devices.” The ACR DSI speakers focused on considerations to improve equitable access to safe and effective healthcare AI innovations.
Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR, discussed how transparency and payment policy improvements, as well as multiagency collaboration between FDA and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), can help facilitate equitable access to AI.
Keith J. Dreyer, DO, PhD, FACR, FSIIM, presented about the DSI’s efforts to enhance transparency to empower healthcare providers to make informed and judicious patient care decisions. Dr. Dreyer summarized DSI’s related initiatives and noted that developers are eager to share helpful information about their AI innovations with providers and patients.
