ACR Advocates for CPT Codes at Recent CPT Editorial Panel Meeting

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®), the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Association of Academic Radiology, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the American Society of Neuroradiology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology requested Current Procedure Terminology® (CPT®) codes at the 2024 September American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Editorial Panel meeting. The hybrid meeting was the final of three meetings to update codes for the 2026 CPT code cycle.

The radiology organizations collaborated with other specialty societies on the following code change applications:

• Lower Extremity Vascular Procedures
• Thoracic Branch Endograft Services
• Sympathetic Denervation Renal Arteries
• Radiation Oncology Treatment Delivery

ACR and the radiology societies also reviewed and commented on other code change applications with potential radiology or radiation oncology coding implications.

Category III codes approved at the September meeting will be posted on the AMA website Jan. 1, 2025, and take effect July 1, 2025. Category I codes approved at the meeting will take effect Jan. 1, 2026.

The anticipated radiology code changes for 2025 are available here. The September/October Coding Source will be released soon with the finalized list of 2025 codes with descriptors pertinent to radiology.
