The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued an update to language in the Medicare Program Integrity Manual relating to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Payments and Change of Ownership (CHOW) effective May 15, 2017.
This revision explains that once the CHOW has been processed only the buyer is permitted to submit claims. Previously Medicare Administrative Contractors crosswalked claims information such that sellers could complete their billing. The update now requires that the current and previous owners create billing arrangements for claims furnished during and before the CHOW processing is complete.
