Place of Service Rule Prompts Meeting With CMS

On March 26, 2013, the ACR, the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA), the Medical Group Management Association, and the Healthcare Billing and Management Association, held a conference call with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) representatives regarding the Place of Service (POS) Transmittal 2613, effective April 1, 2013.

The societies prepared specific POS questions regarding the CMS 1500 claim form regarding the various sites of service, reporting of National Provider Identifiers (NPIs), global billing and the “same supplier” definition, and the difference between line items 32 and 33. The ACR Radiology Coding Source will publish clarification from CMS when it is received.
