Radiation Oncology (RO) is a highly subspecialized field which requires a high level of commitment and coordination among various groups of professionals including the physicians, referral providers, medical physicists, dosimetrists, nursing, and radiation therapy. To augment the future workforce, the current radiation oncologists must continue to build skills and leadership experience so that they are up-to-date with the future challenges that the clinical practice and environment will bring in 2025 and beyond.

The ACR is a leader in the development and adoption of safe and effective AI in clinical practice. During this session, practical strategies and success stories for integrating AI into clinical practice will be shared. Understanding and building on what is already being successfully done today will help our radiology community envision how AI could be further integrated into the radiology practices of the future. Stay connected and up to date on some of the latest developments by learning from our AI experts. A series of “fast” talks will be followed by a panel discussion. We invite you to join us in this engaging session!

As physician shortages loom across the United States, nurse practitioners and physician assistants (together non-physician practitioners) continue to grow in number and scope of practice, creating both threats and opportunities for radiology practices. Non-physician practitioners will be discussed through the lens of disruptive innovation, a process in which services take root in simple applications at the bottom of markets and then relentlessly move up those markets, displacing incumbents. Peer-reviewed literature describing the rapidly changing roles of non-physician practitioners—both within radiology practices and outside of radiology practices—will be reviewed, and concepts presented to guide radiologists in potentially harnessing disruption to aid their practices and their patients.

At this year’s forum we will explore new payments models proposed for radiation oncology, and challenges of duplicating such models in diagnostic radiology. Updates on MPFS and MIPS will be provided and there will be discussion around funding the future radiology work force, including what it will take to be successful. We’ll also share what goes into building a screening business in diagnostic radiology and what is essential to get right.
