What does the WWE, the Kansas City Chiefs and voice lessons have to do with being a radiology leader? Join host Geoffrey Rubin, MD, MBA, FACR, and guest Amy K. Patel, MD, medical director for women's imaging at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri and assistant professor of radiology at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, to find out!
Dr. Patel is on a mission to empower women to take charge of their breast health and in this inspiring conversation, you will learn why she decided to go to medical school (and what she would have done if she didn’t!), when she fell in love with breast radiology and what made her return to practice and serve the community where she grew up.
Her leadership journey began during medical school as president of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and continued during residency at the University of Kansas Wichita where she was instrumental in establishing (and later served as president of) the Resident and Fellow Section of the Kansas Radiological Society and served as the first female chief resident. You will hear the remarkable story of being hired by Liberty Hospital, just one year out of fellowship, to build their breast program and about the amazing work she and her colleagues are doing.
In this can’t miss episode she talks about some of her advocacy wins, how she uses social media and why she believes mentorship and sponsorship is so important. Driven by her passion for women’s health and to close the gap of breast care disparities, Dr. Patel is truly leading to ensure access to care for all patients.
