Recht, MD, the Louis Marx Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at NYU Langone Health and current president of SCARD, the Society for Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments. A visionary leader in academic radiology, Dr. Recht shares insights on balancing clinical productivity and academic research, emphasizing the importance of valuing both equally. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Recht recounts his professional path from the his undergraduate years close to home at the University of Pittsburgh, to the University of Pennsylvania for medical school and residency in Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Chief Resident. He went on to do an interventional fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, an MR fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, an Osteoradiology fellowship at the University of California at San Diego and 10 months in the Siemens MR research division in Erlangen, Germany.
Throughout the conversation, Dr. Recht talks about his commitment to developing new educational models, including an AI enabled precision education program for radiology residents, avoiding burnout by establishing a reasonable standard workday, integrating AI into practice, as well as his entrepreneurial pursuits. He underscores the necessity for academic radiology to lead the profession by engaging with various organizations and affinity groups, ensuring a unified approach to advancing the field.
