Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR, Chair of the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Board of Chancellors, contributed this piece.
Today, we shared the new ACR strategic plan, “Empowering the Radiologist of the Future.” Your ACR leaders, guided by input from more than 1,000 ACR members and a strategic planning committee co-chaired by Frank Lexa, MD, MBA, FACR and Alex Norbash, MD, MS, FACR, have developed twelve interconnected and interdependent objectives to increase member value, improve radiologic care and strengthen healthcare for all.
Our objectives include measures to: increase inclusivity and transparency in ACR decision making, strengthen multidirectional communication, promote the role of radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists and nuclear medicine physicians in population health and health equity, and champion leveraging and mobilization of emerging technology and artificial intelligence.
I encourage you to explore the interactive Strategy Map on acr.org/strategicplan. Adapted from the landmark work of Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton, strategy mapping provides a visual representation of, and path towards achieving, an organization’s critical objectives. Kaplan and Norton’s “balanced scorecard” measures organizational performance from four major perspectives: learning and growth, internal process, financial, and customer. At the ACR, these translate to:
Capacity Building – We are focused on continued organizational growth, refinement and alignment of members, staff and resources to drive success along the entire strategic journey.
Organizational Processes – We are committed to enhancing processes that reflect our core values and increase our effectiveness.
Finances – The ACR is dedicated to managing financial resources to advance strategic objectives and maximize member benefit.
Members – Our members are at the core of everything we do. We support and honor your contributions to the profession.
In an age of ever-evolving healthcare demands and advancements, our strategic plan positions members, practices and the ACR for future success. Crafted upon extensive member input, the new strategic plan builds upon the College’s solid foundations and leverages opportunities and innovation to realize radiology’s potential.
We look forward to the entire College coming together and embracing our new strategy as we step into the future of radiology.
